Chalk is a project by three award-winning musicians and filmmakers: Ross Cullen, Benedict Goddard and Luke Niblock.
The band formed when they met while studying film, discovering they shared the same musical vision and ambitions. Inspired by the ferocity and live performances of Dublin's Guitar Band scene, and influenced by the hardcore dance scenes of their native Belfast (home of artists such as electronic duo BICEP), the band fuses IDLES and Daniel Avery, Death Grips and Bicep - a gothic post-punk with techno influences.
The trio debuted live supporting London-based PVA in their first shows, then sold out across the UK, performed on the European festival circuit and ended the year with an impressive performance at the legendary Rencontres Trans Musicales and a KEXP session, due out in early March 2024.
With their debut EP 'Conditions', the band weaves their hybrid techno/industrial noise sound with the monochromatic gothic visual landscape they have created, in an evocative and fluid manner.
Chalk have started work on their second project with producer Chris Ryan (NewDad, Just Mustard, Enola Gay), which they will release through Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, English Teacher).
Punk is not dead, it enjoys good health and lives on in Belfast.
Only date in southern Italy for the Irish Chalk.
