They are one of the most eagerly awaited bands among those that embody the the new wave of British post-punk<\/strong>: six musicians, angular guitars, a saxophone that cuts through the rhythm, and lyrics that speak of the present. I Deadletter<\/strong> are born in 2020<\/strong> from the long-standing friendship between Zac Lawrence<\/strong> (entry), Alfie Husband<\/strong> (drums) and George Ullyott<\/strong> (bass), three lads who grew up in the Yorkshire<\/strong> who took their first steps by playing as buskers in the squares of their home towns. Their move to a shared house in the South London<\/strong> transforms the project into something broader: the training is extended to six elements<\/strong> with Sam Jones<\/strong> e Will King<\/strong> on guitars and Poppy Richler<\/strong> on the saxophone, an instrument that has become a hallmark of their sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just a few years, the Deadletter<\/strong> They became one of the leading names on the British alternative scene, the very same scene centred around the legendary Brixton Windmill<\/strong> and which brought bands such as Squid<\/strong>, Black Country, New Road<\/strong>, Yard Act<\/strong> e black midi<\/strong>. Following their debut EP \u201cHeat!\u201d<\/em> of 2022<\/strong>, the band has built its reputation primarily on stage, with a busy live schedule taking in British clubs, European festivals and international tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sound of Deadletter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The sound of the Deadletter<\/strong> brings together two eras of the post-punk<\/strong>. On the one hand, the edginess and angularity of the classics from the late 1970s and 1980s; on the other, the danceability and urgency of the current scene. The band\u2019s stated influences range from LCD Soundsystem<\/strong> at The Stranglers<\/strong>, including obscure names such as Captain Beefheart<\/strong> and the Can<\/strong>: the result is a art-punk<\/em> in which the sharp guitars, pulsating bass and driving drums create a rhythm section that is strongly dance-oriented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first studio album by Deadletter<\/strong> \u00e8 \u201cHysterical Strength\u201d<\/em>, published in 2024<\/strong> and produced by Jim Abbiss<\/strong>, already working with Arctic Monkeys<\/strong> e Adele<\/strong>. Twelve tracks that capture the band at the height of its post-punk intensity, ranging from fast-paced numbers to moments where the saxophone takes centre stage, as in \u201cIt Flies\u201d<\/em> and on the title track. The album has been hailed as one of the most compelling debuts on the new London scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breakthrough came with their second album \u201cExistence Is Bliss\u201d<\/em>, released on 27 February 2026<\/strong> via So Recordings<\/strong> and preceded by the single \u201cTo The Brim\u201d<\/em>. Here are the Deadletter<\/strong> they expand their sound: alongside the usual post-punk with saxophone, they introduce airy synths<\/strong> e new-wave texture<\/strong>, in a more multifaceted and atmospheric album.
