Populous<\/strong> returns live to the Colour Fest 14<\/strong> and brings to Calabria one of the most original voices of the\u2019Italian electronics<\/strong>. The producer from Salento<\/strong> plays in the Day 2<\/strong>, Wednesday 12 August 2026<\/strong>, on the Falcone and Borsellino promenade<\/strong> by Lamezia Terme (CZ)<\/strong>, on the Riviera of Sunsets<\/strong>. A set that weaves together cumbia<\/strong>, Latin ambient<\/em> and electronic beats: exactly the sort of music you\u2019d want to listen to at sunset, just a stone\u2019s throw from the sea. This is his slot in the programme of the 14th edition<\/strong> of the festival with the claim \u201cSummer on a Solitary Beach\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is Populous: the Salento-based producer who speaks to the world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Behind the name Populous<\/strong> there is Andrea Mangia<\/strong>, producer, DJ, sound designer and film score composer originally from Salento<\/strong>, in the province of Lecce<\/strong>. He made his debut in 2003<\/strong> for the Berlin-based label Morr Music<\/strong> and since then has built one of the longest-running and most consistent careers on the independent scene: over twenty years of albums, artist residencies and international collaborations, with releases also on The Tempest<\/strong> e 42 Records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His trademark is the movement<\/strong>: each album is different from the last, always in dialogue with something non-Italian<\/em>. Over the years Populous<\/strong> crossed downtempo<\/em>, dub<\/em>, Latin electronic folk<\/em>, digital tarantellas, hyperpop<\/em> e world music<\/em> contemporary, whilst remaining recognisable thanks to a Mediterranean and tropical sensibilities<\/strong> which absorbs global scenes and renders them with a distinct identity. It is no coincidence that his work has been featured in international publications such as Pitchfork<\/strong> and from specialist magazines from all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrival of Populous<\/strong> at Colour Fest 2026<\/strong> marks a full return to the stage after a long break from live performances. The starting point is \u201cIsla Diferente\u201d<\/strong><\/em>, published on\u201911 April 2025<\/strong> for his new label Latinambient<\/strong>, born out of a veritable sonic manifesto rather than an album. The tracks were written between January and February 2024<\/strong> during a residency in Lanzarote<\/strong>, the most mysterious island of the Canary Islands<\/strong>: lunar landscapes, dormant volcanoes, rugged and tangible nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is an instrumental journey suspended between cumbia<\/strong> e Latin ambient<\/em>, featuring guest vocal performances from Italy<\/strong>, Costa Rica<\/strong>, Mexico<\/strong> e Puerto Rico<\/strong>. An album that combines the ethereal softness of ambient music with the physicality of electronic and South American rhythms, presented on tour with a special A\/V show<\/strong> (audio-video) which has also graced prestigious stages such as that of the Romaeuropa Festival 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
